Entrevista realizada com o Roqueiro internacionalmente conhecido JSS, fã de Queen notório, gravou um CD de tributo a banda ao vivo de uma convenção para fãs de Queen, foi a voz da banda Steel Dragon (Banda fictícia do Filme "Rock Star") confira abaixo o que rolou!

Jeff Scott Soto - Eu tenho certa satisfação da entidade solo que esta faltando da banda, coisas que me completam. Eu diria que isso tem mais a ver com o aspecto ao vivo no fato de que eu não somente chamo de tomadas do meu show ao vivo do começo até o final, é a chance que eu tenho de cobrir todas as bases de minha carreira enquanto em uma banda, você somente cobre o aspecto daquela banda. Também musicalmente, a diversidade é muito mais aparente quando eu vou organizar o ser que eu “quero” fazer.

QB - Em 2003, você participou de um evento pra fãs de Queen; Como foi tocar pra milhares de fãs, musicas de teus ídolos?

JSS - Esta foi à coisa mais próxima em sendo Queen, eu quero dizer, estas audiências sabem todas as nuanças e peculiaridades de todas as músicas do Queen já gravadas. Existem muitos fãs que somente sabem os hits, mas em uma convenção de Queen, você sabe que está tocando na frente de fãs reacionários que sabem todos os movimentos, todas as letras. É muito divertido mostrar para eles minha apreciação por esta banda e sua música e eles compartilham seu amor com apreciação do que eu tento fazer por eles.

QB - Por falar em Queen, você tocou com Roger e Brian no Hall da fama? Qual a sensação? Você tocaria de novo? Há planos de algum projeto com a banda? Você gosta do trabalho que Paul Rodgers está fazendo com o Queen?

JSS - Eu não fiz o show do Hall da Fama, eu cantei com eles na festa de recepção da estrela deles no Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Foi um dos momentos mais abençoados da minha vida e carreira, Brian e Roger são grandes amigos e músicos, mas o mais importante, seres humanos maravilhosos. Até agora, não temos planos imediatos de trabalhos juntos para o futuro, mas se Paul algum dia cair fora, bom, digamos que nós compartilhamos idéias. Sobre o envolvimento do Paul, bom, eu acho que Paul é MARAVILHOSO no que ele faz, cantando músicas do Queen não é uma dessas coisas.

QB - No teu mais novo CD Lost in Translation, fala muito de você mesmo. Conte-nos como foi a produção. A composição, enfim, fale-nos deste ultimo trabalho.

JSS - Eu escrevi e gravei o álbum simultaneamente com o álbum Soul SirkUS (Outra banda de Jeff) , foi difícil já que eu tinha que me concentrar em 2 coisas completamente diferentes ao mesmo tempo. Eu estava muito feliz com o lançamento como a espontaneidade feito para um álbum forte, ao invés de voltar e tocar tudo, se eu tivesse tempo de produzir isso.

QB - A musica Believe in me, teu carro chefe, (aliás belíssima), é baseada em alguém, em algum momento, em alguma situação? Como é que ocorreu processo d e criação?

JSS - Obrigado, não, não é autobiografia, é somente uma letra que me veio rápido e fácil. A música em si foi totalmente escrita por Neal Schon, que jogou sua faixa de guitarra em 1 take com nós pensado que este seria somente uma faixa demo. Eu peguei o som da guitarra dele e construí a banda em volta com bateria e baixo e depois adicionando minha letra e voz. A música inteira levou cerca de 15 minutos para completar, eu coloquei no meu “chapéu” Journey e terminei isso como se fosse uma música nova do Journey, alguma coisa muito natural para mim já que Journey é uma grande influência.

QB - Li numa entrevista tua, que voce adora o Brasil pela paixão e pela comida. E as mulheres? e a famosa caipiroska? Falando serio: Você pensa em vir conhecer o nosso pais, excursionar, enfim, não só a trabalho?

JSS - Eu amo Brasil, especialmente nesta última viagem, eu passei mais tempo no Brasil do que outro país então deu para absorver melhor a cultura. Sim, as mulheres são as mais bonitas do mundo, a comida é de melhor qualidade e a Caipiroska (não “rinha” para mim) é a melhor bebida alcoólica já inventada!!!

QB - O DVD Live at the Gods 2002, você diz que o resultado não foi o esperado. Você planeja resultados, ou deixa as coisas acontecerem?

JSS - Nada é sempre planejado, o que faz o resultado em tudo!! Eu pensei que a audiência estaria com fogo já que eles eram uma coleção de fãs deste gênero de música tudo embaixo do mesmo teto, mas eles realmente não estavam com fogo, não que nem os fãs latino americanos. Eu estava com esperanças de fazer um DVD ao vivo nesta turnê, mas as coisas não foram arrumadas a tempo. Talvez ano que vem!

QB - Você já tocou pra números grande de pessoas e também pra números reduzidos, como no Manifesto Bar. Há alguma diferença?

JSS - Não para mim, desde que as pessoas estejam curtindo, não faz diferença para eu tocar lugar pequeno ou grande.

QB - Por falar em pessoas, ídolos, existe alguém com que você gostaria de tocar ainda? ou gostaria de ter tocado?

JSS - Eu acho que eu entendo isso agora, meus planos são de fazer mais daquilo que tem ido bem para mim, isto é algo que tem maior foco ao invés de ficar me escondendo atrás de alguém.

QB - Você cita como vocalistas únicos Prince e Freddie Mercury. O que Freddie representa pra você musicalmente?

JSS - Liberdade, expressão, paixão e não inibição. Freddie me ensinou que não há barreiras na música ou na vida, viver cheio e criar do coração não importa o que os outros possam pensar de você. Esta é uma grande lição que eu desejo que mais bandas e artistas vivam assim, e de novo, eu desejo que fãs pudessem viver também com essa regra.

QB - Você é uma artista eclético, já participou de eventos de tributo e homenagens. Quem você homenagearia hoje?

JSS - Eu já cobri todas as homenagens para os meus heróis, como eu disse, agora é hora para eu continuar construindo meu próprio nome e carreira.

QB - Você se estressa com a mídia mercenária que cobra resultados de venda? ou você é do tipo, cria e pronto?

JSS - Eu somente deixo rolar, existem tantas forças ridículas na vida como ela é, eu somente quero rock cara!!

QB - Quais são os projetos para o futuro?

JSS - Tem o lançamento do CD Best Of JSS Ballads com 3 novas músicas, um álbum novo com a minha outra banda Talisman e um novo álbum solo sendo trabalhado. Entre isso terei muitas turnês e aparições ao vivo através de 2006 que será um ano ocupado para mim novamente!

QB - Sabes que por aonde passas, deixa fans... Que mensagem daria a eles?

JSS - Palavras não podem expressar meu agradecimento e apreciação, um músico como eu deveria se considerar extremamente sortudo todos os dias por pessoas como você que nos fazem continuar o nosso sonho de criar e fazê-los felizes com os prazeres da música. Vamos manter a roda gigante girando!!!        JSS

QueenBrazil.com - You have already played in bands and now you're giving emphasis to your solo career. Is that different? What gives you more pleasure?

Jeff Scott Soto - I have a certain satisfaction from the solo entity that is missing entirely from the band thing that completes me. I'd say it has more to do with the live aspect in the fact that not only do I call the shots with my live show from beginning to end, it's the one chance I get to cover all the grounds of my career whereas in a band, you just cover the aspect of that band. Musically as well, the diversity is much more apparent when I get to organize the set I 'want' to do.

QB - In 2003, you participated in a Queen fan Convention. How it was to play music from your idols for so many Queen fans?

JSS - It was the closest thing to being in Queen, I mean these audiences know every nuance & tidbit of every Queen song recorded. There are many fans who only know the hits but at a Queen convention, you know you're playing in front of the diehard fans who know all the moves, all the lyrics. It's great fun showing them my appreciation for this band & their music and they share their love with appreciation for everything I try to do for them.

QB - Talking about Queen, Did you played with Roger Taylor and Brian May in Hall Of Fame? What do you feel about it? Would you play again? Is there any plan of future projects with the band? And did you liked the work that Paul Rodgers is doing with Queen?

JSS - I didn't do the Hall Of Fame show, I sang with them at the party for the reception of their Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. It was one of the humblest moments of my career & life, Brian & Roger are great friends & musicians but more importantly, amazing human beings. So far, there are no immediate plans to work with them in the future but if Paul ever bowed out, well, let's just say we've shared ideas. Paul's involvement, well, I'll leave it at I think Paul is AMAZING at what he does, singing Queen songs isn't one of them.

QB - In your new CD, Lost In The Translation, it's a lot about you. Tell us how was the production and composition, well... tell us about that last work.

JSS - I wrote & recorded the album simultaneously with the Soul SirkUS album, it was difficult as I had to focus on 2 completely different entities at the same time. I was very happy with the outcome as the spontaneity made for a strong album instead of going back & touching everything up had I had the time to overproduce it.

QB - The song Believe In Me, your hit, (beautiful by the way), Is that based in someone, or in any moment or situation? How it was the creation process?

JSS - Thanks, no it's not autobiographical, it was just a lyric that came to me fast & easily. The song itself was written entirely by Neal Schon, who threw down his guitar track in 1 take with us thinking it was just a working demo track. I took his raw guitars & built the band around it with drums & bass & then adding my lyrics & voice. The whole song took about 15 minutes to complete, I just put on my Journey 'hat' & finished it as it would be a new Journey song, something very natural for me as Journey are a huge influence.

QB - I read in one interview of yours, that you love Brasil for its passion and for the food. And what about the womans? And the famous caipirinha? But now it's serious, Do you think about coming to visit our country, in leisure and not only in business?

JSS - I love Brasil, especially this last trip, I spent more time in Brasil than any country & really got to absorb the culture more. Yes, the women are amongst the most beautiful in the world, the food is amongst the best quality & the Caipiroska (not rinha for me) is the greatest alcoholic beverage ever invented!!!

QB - In the DVD Live At The Gods 2002, you said that the result wasn't expected. Do you plan results, or you just let it happened?

JSS - Nothing is ever planned which makes for the results in everything!! I thought the audience would be on fire as they were the collection of fans for this genre of music all under 1 roof, but they really had no fire in them, not like Latin American fans. I was hoping to do a live DVD on this tour but things were not setup on time maybe next year!

QB - You have played for an huge and small number of people like in Manifesto's Bar... Is there any difference?

JSS - Not for me, as long as the people are into it, it makes no difference for me to play small or big.

QB - Talking about people and idols, is there anybody that you wish to play in the future? Or wished you had the opportunity to play?

JSS - I think I've covered that now, my plans are to make the most of what I already have going for me, this is something that takes more focus than riding on someone else's coattails.

QB - You quote as unic vocals Prince and Freddie Mercury. What does Freddie represents musically to you?

JSS - Freedom, expression, passion & no inhibitions…Freddie taught me there are no boundaries in music or in life, live it to the fullest & create from the heart no matter what others might think of you. This is a huge lesson I wish more bands & artists would live by, then again, I wish fans could also live by this rule.

QB -  You are an various musician, you participated in tributes and honors. Who would you honor today?

JSS - I've covered all the homages to my heroes, as I said, now is the time for me to continue building my own name & career.

QB - Did you get stressed with this mercenary media that charges you for sell results? Or you create and just let it be?

JSS - I just let it be, there are too many ridiculous strains on life as it is, I just wanna rock man!!

QB -  What are your future projects?

JSS - There is a Best Of JSS Ballads CD coming out with 3 new songs, a new album with my other band Talisman & a new solo album in the works. In between there will be much touring & live appearances throughout 2006, it will be a busy year for me again!

QB - You know that wherever you go, you make new fans... What message would you give to your fans?

JSS - Words can't express my thanks & appreciation, a musician as myself should consider every day as extremely lucky we have people like you to keep us continuing our dream to create & make you happy with the joys of music. Let's keep the wheels spinning!!!  JSS
